As a child, I LOVED history and dreamed about writing books. I thought being an author was the ultimate profession. I could imagine nothing more thrilling than having other people read a book I had written.
However, I got sidetracked and became an Army wife, a mother, an elementary school teacher, an archaeologist, and an historic preservation consultant, all before publishing my first book! My first was with two other authors – a pictorial history of Marshall County, Kentucky. I knew when I held that first volume that I would never stop writing.
Now in 2025, I have published 17 volumes, all dealing with that original passion – HISTORY. The history of our nation’s past. The history of places, events, and families. These include five time-travel/history books for middle-grade children and three historical novels for adults. My time-travel series written for middle grade to young adult readers occupies much of my thoughts as there is so much to consider—like can dogs time travel? I have also written four books on Theodore Roosevelt’s maternal line – the Bulloch family of Roswell, Georgia.
Over the years I have won awards for my fiction work from Kindle Book Awards, Incipere Awards, Purple Dragonfly, Royal Dragonfly, Literary Classics, Chanticleer International Awards, and Kindle Book Awards.
I write fiction under the name C.M. Huddleston and history volumes under Connie M. Huddleston. Some of my books are traditionally published while others are self-published. I am proud to be a self-published author.
I reside in a log cabin near Crab Orchard, Kentucky, with my husband, a retired Army officer, an Australian Shepherd named Katie, and an Bernaussie (Berner/Australian Shepherd), named Gus for Augustus McCrae of Lonesome Dove fame. Both dogs often time-travel to far off meadows to chase deer and turkeys. But they rush home with a simple call of “chicken, chicken.”
This year I am very proud to announce that a new blue ribbon hangs in my office. My historical fiction for adults, Esther, placed first in the Laramie Division of the Chanticleer Book Awards for 2024.
