Teachers and Homeschool Instructors:
As a former teacher, an historian, and a retired archaeologist, I write these books with great care to teach real history. I research the time period, historical setting, and actual events that Greg will visit in his time travel adventures. I then present these facts in a fun way so that children can learn history by reading about a character experiencing an event or a way of life. While Greg is all fiction, Hopelf truly represents a boy/man in the late Archaic period of our prehistory. In Greg’s Second Adventure, all of the characters except Greg’s family are real or represent actual people. The events happened at Boonesborough just as Greg experienced them. The Rittenhouse family actually lived in Kentucky during this period, although I did give them children that may not have existed. Theirs is a representation of many pioneer families.
Use the links below each book’s title to download the lesson plan pdfs. The lessons for Greg 1 and 2 are designed for 4th grade students based on Kentucky Academic Standards. They can be used for advanced third graders and higher grade students with some adaptation. Since Greg ages with the books, the lessons for Greg 3 are a bit more difficult and are appropriate for 5th to 7th grade. Fifth graders may need more help with the lessons than 7th graders. I also tried to involve your student in problem solving in these lessons. Greg 4 Lesson Plans are more suited to sixth to eighth graders. Again, they can be modified as needed. Feel free to use only the parts suitable for your class or your child. There are no lesson plans for Greg’s Fifth Adventure in Time.

This set of lesson plans reinforces the history of colonial Kentucky during the Revolutionary War as told in this book. It contains lots of fun puzzles and maps.
Greg’s Third Adventure Lesson Plans
These plans include comprehension questions for each chapter, a map exercise, a lesson on the Declaration of Independence, a lesson on the Battle of Trenton, two crossword puzzles, and a fun reading sheet about the Teddy bear.
Greg’s Fourth Adventure Lesson Plans
These plans include comprehension questions, a map exercise, a primary sources exercise, a complicated math problem, a vocabulary crossword puzzle, a video game link, and other enrichment activities.
